"Grand Portage" depicts the rigors and grandeur of daily life around an 18th century trading post on the shores of Lake Superior.
The woodcut technique and use of sepia tones contribute to its sense of age. The artwork also portrays native flora and fauna, including a lady`s slipper flower, a ruffed grouse, and a white-breasted nuthatch.
